Tai Po District is composed of two district geographical locations – Tai Po and Sai Kung North and appropriate, covering a place of about 14 800 hectares.
The very first industrial estate in Hong Kong was assembled in 1974 in Tai Po. In 1979, Tai Po was proclaimed a new town with its first public housing estate completed in 1981. Tai Po has developed as a comfortable new town together with the end of the Tolo Highway and Tate’s Cairn Tunnel in 1985 and 1991 respectively.
The people of Tai Po is estimated to reach 3200000. For the housing facilities, there are currently 6 public housing estates and 12 housing estates created under the Home Ownership Scheme/ Private-sector Participation Scheme in Tai Po.
