Sha Tin District

Sha Tin is actually a well-developed new town including mainly residential areas. About 65% of the inhabitants live in public housing including Tenants Purchase Scheme, rental estates and Home Ownership Scheme courts. There are also about 29,000 people living in some 48 indigenous villages. Additionally, there are four industrial areas for light industries in Sha Tin including Siu Lek Yuen, Tai Wai, Fo Tan and Shek Mun.

Shing Mun River
The Shing Mun River is a 7 kilometers long, 200m wide channel originating in the Shing Mun Reservoir (Tai Mo Shan catchment) that runs as a river in the Tai Wai area, via the Sha Tin town centre to Tolo Harbour. It has three main tributaries, specifically Tai Wai Nullah, Fo Tan Nullah and Siu Lek Yuen Nullah. Over the Shing Mun River are highrise commercial, residential and industrial buildings with several village type developments scattered around.
